The scenic Kerio Valley and Iten Town comprise some of the areas hosting the Road Cycling African Championship (CAC) which Kenya will host for the first time this October.
Kenya was chosen to host the 2024 African Road Cycling Championships. This cycling event takes place from October 9th to 13th, 2024.
What are the routes for Road Cycling African Championship 2024?
Participants will traverse three counties – the scenic Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet, the plateaus of Uasin Gishu, and the hills and tea plantations of Nandi.
Speaking while addressing a media briefing on Friday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the extravaganza is the continent’s most prestigious cycling event.
According to the CS, the occasion will offer athletes a dedicated platform to compete, promote the cycling culture and showcase the nation’s capacity to host international events thereby boosting tourism.
Elgeyo Marakwet Sports Executive Purity Koima said the county is elated to have been chosen to co-host the event adding that this would market the County as a top destination for world sports.
She said Elgeyo Marakwet has one of the best cycling circuits owing to it’s undulating landscapes and quality air that makes it ideal for cycling and any other sports discipline.
Koima made an assurance that the County Government under the leadership of Governor Wisley Rotich would ensure the event is a huge success.
It will also serve as vital preparation for upcoming international races, Murkomen added.
“Our nation has a deep passion for sports, and this event allows us to further showcase our ability to organise major international competitions,” said the CS
Murkomen welcomed cycling enthusiasts from across Africa for the year’s edition and also asked Kenyans to come out in large numbers to cheer them on.
