The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Wilson Aruasa was on Friday, December 2, 2022, feted at the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) SPURS Excellence Awards, 2022.
Dr Aruasa who has been at the helm of the MTRH management for the last over 8 years scooped the “Unsung Hero of the Year” award.
He was feted for what was described as his solid work ethics and governance practices in management of a public procurement entity.

While accepting the award, Dr. Aruasa attributed this recognition to personal commitment, zeal and transparency in public procurement process.
In the process, he has led MTRH to a huge transformation under his leadership.
MTRH was also the 1st Runner Up in ‘ICT Innovations’ category at the Awards ceremony held at the Carnivore Simba Salon, Nairobi.

The Eldoret-based hospital is the second largest public health facility in Kenya after the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.
Specialized Services at MTRH
It handles referral cases from at least 23 counties in the North Rift region and parts of Western Kenya – covering a population of over 25 million.
Further, patients from parts of neighboring countries like Eastern Uganda, Southern Sudan, Northern Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Some of the specialized services that MTRH offers include Oncology, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Services, Kidney transplants, Alcohol and Drug Abuse rehabilitative, Spine and Neurosurgical operations, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic, open heart surgery, corneal transplants and Arthroscopic (Shoulder and Knee) Surgeries.

The over 1,000-bed capacity health facility is also the Teaching Hospital for Moi University College of Health Sciences that trains both Undergraduate Medical Students and several Masters in Medicine Specialist programs with over 240 post graduate students (Registrars) distributed across several programs.
Several other Medical Training Institutions also utilize MTRH in their Training programs.
