Veteran gospel musician Reuben Kigame on December 23, 2022, flagged off a truck carrying relief food destined for Marsabit and surrounding areas.
The food was collected through the Okoa Maisha initiative in which Kigame, a presidential aspirant in the August 9, 2022 poll is an ambassador.
It is meant to help families that are facing hunger in the region.
Some of the food donations that were flagged off included donations from churches and individuals around Eldoret town and the wider North Rift region.

Speaking during the flagging off event at the Kigame music academy in Eldoret town, Kigame hailed the church, among them Sirikwa Pentecostal Fellowship and Calvary Chapel Eldoret for their support to the Okoa Maisha Initiative.
Kigame also noted that supporting the needy is not a political exercise but a social and spiritual responsibility towards society.
He urged those who cannot give in kind to donate whatever amount they can during this festive season.
“True leadership puts people before anything else and that people come before projects,” noted the veteran gospel musician.

Northern Kenya and the Horn of Africa have been badly hit by drought due to failed rains for the last four years leading to loss of life and livestock as well as displacement of many families.
A UN outlook for October 2022 to January 2023 indicated that 1.2 million people in Kenya will be in the emergency phase and will need urgent support.
Further, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) report showed that this represents an 84 per cent increase compared to the same time last year.
