Mwiruti, Ndabarnach Crowned New Uasin Gishu Secondary School Soccer Champions

Mwiruti Secondary School are the new soccer champions in Uasin Gishu County.

This is after winning the highly charged final for the county secondary school games at the Wareng High School Grounds.

They beat hosts Wareng High 4-0.

The final had to be delayed for a few hours following a clash between fans of the two teams that come from the same zone.

Further, the game had to be moved to Kapsoya Secondary School as a measure to contain the crowd.

It was the third time Mwiruti was facing Wareng High, having first met in the Zonal Games in June and during the group stage of the county games.

While they lost to their competitors at the Zonal level, their win was a perfect revenge.

On their way to the finals, the Kapseret Sub-County based team edged out defending champions Arnesens Boys from Kesses Sub-county at the semi-finals stage.

The game was decided from the penalty spots after 2-2 draw on regular time.

Eventually, Mwiruti Secondary won the highly entertaining match 3-2 on penalties.

Racecourse High disqualified

On the hand, Wareng High School had sailed to the finals after they were awarded the win against Racecourse High School.

Racecourse staged a walk out from the game in the dying minutes of the second half extra time after the referee declined to award then a penalty.

They accused the referee of being biased.

At the time of the incident, the game was evenly poised at 0-0.

Later, Racecourse were disqualified.

In the soccer girls category, AIC Ndabarnach Secondary School were crowned new champions after they edged out Ngecha Secondary School 1-0 in a closely contested game.

The winning goal was as a result of a penalty awarded to the new champions.

Meanwhile, Mwiruti Secondary School and Ndabarnach will now be heading to Nyahururu in Laikipia County to represent Uasin Gishu in the Rift Valley regional games.

The regional games are slated to run from from the 18th – 22nd of July 2023.
