Uasin Gishu Secondary School Games Were a Success – Kosgey

By Mahlon Lichuma

The recent Uasin Gishu Secondary School games were a huge success, the county’s Sports Association Chairman Patrick Kosgey has said.

Three Eldoret-based schools hosted the games that saw teams from each of the six sub-counties battle for glory and a ticket to represent the county at the regional level.

According to Kosgey, despite a few challenges encountered, they are optimistic about the teams that emerged victorious and will represent the county well at the next level.

We are finally through with the county games and identified the teams that will represent us in the regional games in Laikipia,” the Uasin Gishu County Secondary School Sports Association boss told Uasin Gishu News.

But despite the success of the games that were held this weekend, Kosgey admitted that they had several issues – among them the delay of the Soccer Boy’s finals.

The final between Mwiruti Secondary School and Wareng High School had to be pushed to Sunday and moved to another venue – Kapsoya Secondary School Grounds.

Initially, the final was to be played on Saturday.

Being that the two finalist teams were from the same zonal level, there was tension at the Hillschool Ground as the fans were uncontrollable and as such we had to locate a neutral ground where there would be a set of crowd control measures,” Kosgey explained.

Good results

But with the games over and teams proceeding to the regional games later this month identified, the Uasin Gishu County Secondary School Sports Association is optimistic about good results from them.

He hopes they will get a team that will go up to the highest level of the Secondary School games – the East Africa Schools championship.

I am more confident in the qualified teams as they have displayed a great deal of expert sportsmanship and expertise play in their corresponding sports,” said Kosgey.

This time, we are taking stronger teams to the regional level and we are seeing them going beyond just the Regional games,” he added.

Mwiruti Secondary School and AIC Ndabarnach will be representing Uasin Gishu in the Soccer boys and girls respectively.

Tuiyo will be representing the county in Volleyball boys for the second year running with Newlight Ziwa being the Volleyball girl’s representatives.

Further, St Michael Kipsombe won the rugby title and will be the country representatives at the regional games.
