The National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) has intensified efforts to sensitise the community about the effects of illicit alcohol and drug abuse.
NACADA officials on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, held a meeting with a group of faith-based organisations from Eldoret town.
During the meeting, NACADA officials noted that faith-based organisations are the core pillars of society, hence the need for them to be involved in the ongoing fight against drug abuse and alcoholism.
“They have a wider reach, and they also have moral authority and influence within the community, so as NACADA, when we work together, we can better address this security threat destroying our youth,” said the NACADA official.
“With these engagements, we can provide correct information that can easily reach society,” he added.

Some of the members of the clergy present welcomed the engagement, which they noted should be done on a regular basis.
Why clergy want NACADA given more authority over drgug abuse fight
Jamal Diriw Omari, a muslim leader who attended the session, called for stricter measures against individuals involved in selling illegal drugs and alcohol.
“The government should give NACADA full authority to implement their policies so that we bring this issue of drug abuse and illicit alcohol to an end because it affects the ability of our young people to be involved in nation-building,” Omari said.
He also called on churches and mosques to be involved in educating society on the effects of drug abuse and illicit alcohol.
The same should be extended to learning institutions, the muslim leader said.

In addition, the clergy called on the government to provide NACADA with a special unit of police officers who would be mandated to arrest and prosecute individuals found involved in illicit alcohol and drugs.
“Such individuals should not even have a right to be released on bond as a way of discouraging people from dealing in illegal drugs,” a church leader said.
