New Fuel Prices for Major Towns in Kenya

/

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Friday announced a review of fuel prices that takes effect this Saturday, July 1, 2023.

According to EPRA, the review has factored in recently introduced changes in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products as contained in the Finance Act.

The Act saw VAT on fuel prices increased by double, from 8 per cent to 16 per cent.

With the new law taking effect, the authority announced an increase in the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosine by Ksh13.49, Ksh2.39 and Ksh11.96 per litre respectively.

Pursuant to the Finance Act, 2023, the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene has been revised from 8 per cent to 16 per cent effective 1st July 2023,” EPRA said in part of a statement.

Fuel prices increased by over Ksh10.

Accordingly the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has recalculated the maximum pump prices that will be in force from 1st July to 14th July 2023 taking into account VAT at 16 percent,” it added.

With the new prices, a motorist in Mombasa will purchase a litre of Super Petrol at Ksh192.48, Diesel Ksh176.63 and Kerosine Ksh170.40.

A litre of Super Petrol will retail at Ksh195.53 in Nairobi while Diesel will be Ksh179.67 and Kerosine Ksh173.44.

In Nakuru, Super Petrol will cost Ksh194.60, Diesel Ksh179.14 and Ksh172.93 per litre for Kerosine.

Fuel price in Eldoret

An individual in Eldoret town will buy a litre of Super Petrol at Ksh 195.36, Diesel Ksh179.89 while Kerosine will retail and Ksh 173.69.

Further, for the motorists in Kisumu, they will part with Ksh195.34 for a litre of Super Petrol, Ksh179.89 for Diesel while Kerosine will cost Ksh173.68.

EPRA announced the new fuel prices despite a High Court issuing an order suspending the implementation of the Finance Act.

The increase in the fuel prices is likely to push up the already high cost of living.
