NYS to Construct Roads in Uasin Gishu After Signing Agreement with County

The National Youth Service (NYS) is set to be involved in travelling and grading of roads within Uasin Gishu County.

This is after the service signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the County Government of Uasin Gishu.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, by Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim on behalf of the County and Commandant General James Tembur representing the NYS.

According to Governor Bii, the MoU will allow NYS to do take part in grading and graveling of county roads.

We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Youth Service (NYS) in the presence of Commandant General James Tembur, to undertake grading and gravelling of over 700 kilometres of roads across all of our 30 wards,” Bii said.

The governor pointed out that the strategic partnership will enhance road accessibility and reliability, “ensuring essential services reach every resident in our county of champions, with implementation scheduled over the next threemonths.”

Uasin Gishu County has invested heavily in grading and graveling of rises.

In the 2024/2025 financial year, the county graded over 1,000 kilometres of roads.

The county is also in the process of setting up an asphalt plant aimed at helping reduce the coast of road construction.
