Uasin Gishu County leadership is in the process of creating more spaces within the Eldoret Central Business District (CBD).

This is a move that will see a fresh look and more space to allow the town to rejuvenate and create a safe environment for all residents.

In a consultative meeting held by the acting Chief Officers drawn from Physical Planning, Planner Daniel Koech, Lands’ Nelly Jerotich, Kipleting Mengich (Trade) and Roads’ Julius Rono the discussions on best ways to decongest the town were put across.

Acting chief officers from various departments during the consultative meeting.

The team further discussed on workable relocation of matatu Saccos operating within petrol stations in Eldoret town. It was noted that the matatus in their daily operations have not prioritized the safety of the passengers boarding and alighting from their vehicles.

There are a number of long-distance Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) Saccos that are operating within petrol stations in Eldoret town, including those heading to Nairobi, Kericho and Malaba.

The team also identified convenient areas for picks and drops by Boda Boda operators that would ensure the order is restored within the CBD.

We are looking at regulatory frameworks that would best suit the situation and ensure that proper zoning is achieved to ensure that all issues are put into perspective and all stakeholders engaged,” noted Planner Koech.
