Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has said construction of the Kipkarren Dam Water Treatment Works is progressing well and will significantly boost daily water supply for Eldoret City once complete.
The Governor made the remarks on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after touring the project site. He said the county is making deliberate investments to match the city’s rapid growth with reliable access to clean water.
“The growth of our City of Champions is being matched by deliberate investments that guarantee a reliable supply of one of life’s most essential resources, clean water,” Gov. Bii said during the site visit.
He described the treatment works as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening water security for Eldoret.
“I am encouraged by the steady progress of the Kipkarren Dam Water Treatment Works, a strategic investment that will strengthen water security for our rapidly expanding City of Eldoret,” he added.
According to county projections, the facility will treat between 24,000 and 25,000 cubic metres of water daily upon completion, with capacity to expand to 32,500 cubic metres per day as demand grows.
Once operational, the plant will raise Eldoret’s total daily water supply to more than 90,000 cubic metres, serving households, institutions, industries, businesses and emerging affordable housing developments.
“We will remain ahead of urbanization by investing in resilient water infrastructure that anticipates future demand,” Gov. Bii said.
County officials noted the project is key to addressing current supply gaps and ensuring Eldoret has resilient water infrastructure to support its growing population and economy.
