Raila Odinga: Rift Valley MPs, Elders to Visit Bondo, Present Bulls to ODM Leader’s Family

A group of Members of Parliament from Rift Valley region will on Saturday, October 18, 2025 visit the home of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

According to the chairperson of the region’s MPs Caucus Julius Melly, the visit will serve as a cultural ceremony to symbolise friendship and unify the two communities, Kalenjin and Luo.

The MPs will be accompanied by Kalenjin elders.

Together with Kalenjin elders and leaders, we shall join the people of Nyanza at the home of the late Right Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga in Bondo for a cultural ceremony symbolizing friendship and unity between the Kalenjin and Luo communities,” the Tinderet MP said.

During the visit, the MPs will present 80 bulls to the Odinga family.

MP Melly said the bulls will serve as “a timeless gesture of respect and goodwill rooted in our traditions, signifying brotherhood and peace”.

The late Raila Odinga was a national leader who worked tirelessly for an equitable and united Kenya,” he added.

In addition, the legislator said the ceremony honours Raila’s legacy and reaffirms the Kalenjin community’s shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The former Prime Minister who died on October 15, 2025, will be laid to rest at the the Odinga family cemetery in Opoda Farm, Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

A state funeral service was conducted at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025, with his body set to be airlifted to Kisumu for public body viewing on Saturday before later being taken to his rural home.

 

Raila died in India aged 80.
