Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has announced a three-month amnesty period for customers with unauthorised sewer connections, aimed at encouraging residents and businesses in the area to regularise their connections.
The amnesty period, which runs from October 16, 2025, to January 16, 2026, is designed to give customers a chance to come into compliance with the company’s sewer regulations without facing penalties.
This initiative is part of ELDOWAS’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and ensure the proper management of sewer systems across the region.
Illegal Sewer Connections in Eldoret
ELDOWAS is urging all customers who reside within the sewer network’s coverage area to confirm the status of their sewer connections.
“Customers residing in areas covered by the sewer network are advised to confirm the status of their connections with ELDOWAS,” the notice, signed by Managing Director CPA Lawrence Tanui, reads.

Those with unregistered or illegal sewer connections are encouraged to formalise their connections within the amnesty period.
The company has assured that no penalties will be applied to customers who comply with the regulations during the amnesty window.
“No penalties will be applied to customers who comply within the amnesty window,” the statement emphasised.
Disconnected Water Accounts with Sewer Line Connections
Customers who are no longer receiving water from ELDOWAS but continue to use the company’s sewer lines will also be eligible for the amnesty. These customers will not incur backdated charges but will start receiving billing based on the volume of water consumed from an alternative metered source, calculated at 75% of the water used.
ELDOWAS is urging all affected customers to take advantage of this opportunity to regularise their sewer connections and avoid future complications. The company is also emphasising the importance of following proper regulations to maintain efficient service and uphold the integrity of the sewer system.
