Raila Odinga’s Final Journey: Saboti MP Caleb Amisi Condemns Use of Bullets, Teargas in Kasarani Stadium

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has condemned police officers for using excessive force to manage and control the surging crowds during the public viewing ceremony of the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Kasarani Stadium.

Taking to his X account on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Amisi said lobbying teargas at mourners who had gathered at the stadium spoiled Odinga’s funeral.

This is not proper. Can’t we reason through situations before actions? Shooting live bullets in a mammoth crowd in a stadium is simply stupid,” Amisi said in part of the post.

The MP, a loyal supporter of Raila called for use of harmless means to manage and control crowds during such sensitive events going forward.

Let’s learn to control and think through plans. The government is either playing around with Baba’s funeral or is not a proper government that can run a nation. Sad!” he added.

Why did police teargas mourners in Kasarani Stadium?

Chaotic scenes were witnessed at Kasarani Stadium as the police were forced to use tear gas and shoot in the air to disperse a crowd that was surging towards the VIP podium where President William Ruto and other top government officials were seated.

However, the second-term lawmaker elected on an ODM ticket offered a piece of advice to planners of such national events to avert future crises.

Please, next time you see mourners gathered somewhere, use a PA system to address them, not teargas,” he said.

Raila’s body viewing was initially scheduled to take place in the National Assembly but that plan was changed to Kasarani due to the huge number of people who turned up.
