The National Police Service (NPS) has revealed that a number of police officers were injured during the Azimio protests that were held in Nairobi on March 28, 2023.
According to a statement from the Office of the Inspector General of Police posted on the NPS Twitter handle, at least 20 officers were injured.
Two police cars were also destroyed during the protests that had already been declared unlawful.
“Yesterday, Monday, March 27, 2023, property of unknown value was destroyed in Nairobi, including two police motor vehicles and 23 officers that were injured,” read part of the statement.

The Police IG further said they received reports of the invasion and destruction of a farm in Kiambu County.
The farm is linked to the family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Jomo Kenyatta in which goons invaded, cut down trees and stole sheep.
Further, the police also say they received reports on the invasion of a private company within the Embakasi area in Nairobi to which officers responded swiftly and prevented further crimes.
Investigations
The said company is East African Spectre, believed to be owned by the family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Police have since launched a probe into all the events witnessed on Monday.
“Our investigations into the destruction and injuries caused have begun, and those found culpable shall face the law,” said the police boss in the statement.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service has commended its officers for discharging their duties in what it described as “with the utmost respect for the rule of law as demonstrated by their refrain during the unlawful protests.”
It also assured members of the public that the country remains safe.
This is even as it condemned attacks on police officers deployed to ensure law and order within the city.
