Road Accident near Kikopey along Nakuru-Gilgil Highway Kills 5

Five people, including a child, died on January 26, 2023, following an early morning accident along the busy Nakuru-Gilgil Highway.

A police report indicates that the accident involved two Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) belonging to Nairobi and Mololine Bus Companies as well as a lorry.

The accident happened at around 5.00 am, near Kikopey trading centre in Nakuru County.

Our preliminary investigations indicate that two matatus belonging to Nairobi and Mololine Bus Companies rammed onto a lorry that was stalled along the climbing lane facing towards Nairobi direction,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement posted on its official Twitter handle.

As a result of the impact, five people (4 adults and 1 child) lost their lives, while several others were injured,” NPS added.

Police have since launched comprehensive investigations into the matter, even as they condoled with the bereaved families.

Those injured as a result of the accident have been admitted to various hospitals around the Kikopey area. NPS has also wished those injured a speedy recovery.

However, the police have also asked road users to be keen and ensure they fully adhere to the traffic rules.

This follows rising cases of accidents that saw the country register the highest number of deaths in 2022.

We appeal to motorists and all road users to adhere to traffic rules by driving within the legal speed limits, refraining from driving under influence of alcohol and any other form of recklessness on the road,” noted the National Police Service (NPS).
