By Sosten Kiprono

Organisers have confirmed full readiness for the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country, with athletes from 14 countries expected to compete in the international event set for Lobo Village in Kapseret, Eldoret on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Speaking during the pre-race press conference on Friday, February 13, 2026, the officials said all logistical, medical, and security arrangements have been finalized.

Sirikwa Classic is a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold level circuit.

The race will feature a strong field led by Kenyan star Daniel Ebenyo Simiyu alongside world cross-country gold medalist Agnes Jebet Ngetich.

International contenders include Uganda’s World Cross Country silver medalist Joy Cheptoyek, Japan’s Nobuhiro Sasaki, and Ukraine’s Maria Mazurenko, highlighting the event’s growing global stature.

Technical Director Ibrahim Hussein noted that athletes will compete at an altitude of approximately 2,100 metres above sea level, with a total elevation gain of eight metres along the course.

Hussein explained that warm weather conditions expected on race day could present an added test for runners.

The heat, with expected high of 25, will be a challenge, in a good way because it pushes athletes tactically and physically,” he said.

To manage conditions, organisers have installed hydration showers along the course, positioned after every two kilometres in the 10km race and at every 1.8 kilometres for other races, ensuring athlete safety and performance support.

Meanwhile, competition Director Kennedy Tanui said security teams, medical personnel, and emergency response units have been fully deployed, including up to 10 ambulances stationed along the course.

Everything is in place — security, medical services, and race logistics — and we are ready to host athletes and fans,” Tanui said.
