Solasa Starlets and Atalanta FC were on Sunday crowned winners of the Kapseret Football Tournament funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Solasa Starlets lifted the women trophy after edging out Espodec Ladies 2-1 in an entertaining encounter staged at Mwiruti Secondary School.
Jane Ngala and Nancy Cherono were on target for the Starlets while Ynah Cheptoo scored the only goal for Espodec.
“The game was a bit hard but we’re glad we won. We worked hard as a team because we wanted this win,” said Elizabeth Nduta, the defender of Solasa Starlets.
Immaculate Auma, Espodec Ladies captain on her part said, “the game was good. In the first half we played well, this second half our defense was not strong enough.”
In the men’s category, Atlanta FC emerged victorious against Mumoniat FC after post-match penalties.
The game had ended 1-1 in regular time before Atlanta lifted the trophy with a 5-3 win.
“Today’s game was somehow hard. We had fought and we thank God we won. Even if it is a game sponsored by politicians, these youths have talents. If anyone comes out and supports these clubs financially, these youths can go far,” said Dennis Ngeri, Atalanta FC Coach.
Mumoniat FC coach Robert Omuhambe urged incoming leaders to look upon issues of sports in terms of fields and finance.
“The game was nice, we had drawn. Penalties are always unpredictable. The field was a challenge, very poor with dust everywhere. We urge politicians when they return to their offices to look into these issues,” said Omuhambe.
The Kapseret Football Tournament was sponsored by Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi who awarded teams with cash prizes and trophies.
Winning teams were awarded Ksh30,000, Ksh20,000 for the runners up and Ksh10,000 was given to the second runners up team.
