Soy MP David Kiplagat Launches Drive to Identify 3,000 Gas Yako Beneficiaries

Residents of Soy Constituency are set to benefit from a subsidised clean cooking programme after area MP David Kiplagat announced a public participation exercise to identify 3,000 beneficiaries under the Gas Yako initiative.

The exercise, dubbed Operation Ondoa Moshi Phase I, seeks to promote the adoption of clean energy solutions by providing selected households with gas cookers and cylinders at a heavily subsidised cost.

According to information shared by the MP, the programme is designed to reduce household cooking expenses, improve safety and protect families from the health risks associated with smoke from traditional cooking methods.

Under the initiative, a gas cooker and cylinder package valued at KSh6,500 will be made available through a cost-sharing arrangement. The government will provide a subsidy of KSh5,000, while the MP’s office will contribute KSh1,000, leaving beneficiaries to pay only KSh500.

How will beneficiaries of Gas Yetu programme be identified?

The public participation exercise will be conducted from November 2 to November 6, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at polling stations across Soy Constituency. Specific polling station schedules and venue allocations are expected to be announced next week.

The programme is part of broader efforts to expand access to affordable and cleaner sources of energy in the constituency while easing the financial burden on households grappling with rising living costs.

In his message to residents, MP Kiplagat said the initiative is aimed at putting money back into the pockets of wananchi, protecting families from harmful cooking smoke and ensuring clean energy becomes accessible to ordinary households.

“Our commitment is simple: practical solutions, tangible benefits and better living standards for the people of Soy,” the MP said.
