The Office of the First Lady of Kenya, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), will this Friday be launching the Eldoret-Iten Water Fund ‘One Million Trees’ campaign.
A media advisory sent to newsrooms indicates that the campaign is aimed at promoting conservation and sustainable practices within the region.
“The event will be graced by the Chief Guest, Her Excellency Rachel Ruto, the First Lady of Kenya, along with Mr Ademola Ajagbe, Regional Managing Director of The Nature Conservancy,” read part of the media advisory.
It will be held at Kebior Primary School in Kitany Sub Location, Elgeyo Marakwet County
Eldoret-Iten Water Fund is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to support farmers in five river sub-watersheds as they engage in conservation activities on their farms, including the cultivation of fruit and indigenous trees.
Additionally, the Water Fund will provide assistance to Water Resource Users Associations, Community Forest Associations, and forest-adjacent communities, empowering them to fulfil their crucial role in watershed conservation.
Water funds also bring together diverse water users from the public and private sectors to jointly invest in targeted, scientifically guided conservation interventions to protect the water resources they rely on.
Further, water funds bring together a range of stakeholders to create a governance and finance mechanism for source water protection, thereby ensuring more significant water flows for cities.
