Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed to reclaim grabbed public land and those whose leases have expired.
After leading a team of county staff, including Lands Executive Janerose Mutama and surveyors, on a familiarization tour of county installations on December 13, 2022, the governor lamented that individuals had seized public lands that could have been used to build the county milling plant and low-cost housing.
“Originally, Trans Nzoia residents were to build public facilities on these plots of land, but they have been taken. We want to ensure residents enjoy what is theirs,” said Natembeya.

At the same event, the Lands CECM said the county is reserving lands whose leases have expired for public use.
As a result, she has already written to the relevant offices objecting to any other lease regarding individual tenants.
Mutama further called on members of the public who have information about a seized property to contact the relevant authorities.

The Lands County Executive Committee Member (CECM) also urged individuals to contact the department of lands for information on its legal status before making payments on the land.
