Trans Nzoia UDA MCAs Differ With Wetangula Over Looming Ex-Prison Farm Evictions

A section of UDA-elected MCAs in Trans Nzoia County has differed with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula over the fate of individuals living in contested Kenya Prisons land in Kitale.

Wetangula on Saturday said those in the land that the Prison’s are claiming ownership to will not be evicted.

But the MCAs led by Deputy majority whip Kefa Were said the eviction plan must continue.

Were who is also the Kapomboi MCA noted that it’s the President that issued a directive for those in the land to be kicked out.

Addressing the press at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Kwanza where the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is leading a fundraiser, the MCAs said Ruto’s declaration should not be contradicted.

President Ruto issued the directive in broad daylight that all the people who have grabbed prison’s land should move out or risk face evictions. Gachagua is here at a time when the grabbers are pushing that the eviction notice be cancelled but we hope he will echo Ruto’s declaration,,” Were stated.

Aplly law equally to all

The vocal human rights defender-turned-politician further said the law should be applied equally without discrimination.

What is good for the goose is also good for the gander. We have witnessed series of evictions in Mombasa, Machakos, Kakamega and even Bungoma. The same law should be applied here,” he said.

On his part, Kaplamai ward MCA Daniel Mosbei said Kenya Kwanza government should address all land ownership cases and repossess all grabbed public lands.

President Ruto has demonstrated that he wants to slain corruption and land grabbing. Some leaders have sided with land grabbers and we stand in solidarity with our President because we need back all grabbed public lands,” Mosbei said.

The contested land has divided Trans Nzoia leaders where some of them led by Senator Allan Chesang want dialogue between the government and the land owners.

Recently, Chesang’ dragged Governor George Natembeya into the looming evictions and demolitions.
