Workers in Trans Nzoia County are set to stage a peaceful protest next week.
The protest, planned for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, relates to what workers union termed as serious labour injustices they are being subjected to by the county.
According to a letter to the Trans Nzoia County Police Commander seen by Uasin Gishu News, the procession will involve all workers unions in the county.
“This is to notify you of our intention to participate in a peaceful procession that shall culminate in a salary parade from the workers freedom corner at Drs Plaza to Trans Nzoia County headquarters and Trans Nzoia County Assembly,” read part of the letter dated March 13, 2026.

The procession, the letter notes, will be part of the workers exercising their constitutional means of “expressing our displeasure against serious labour injustices against the workers, priority being persistent and chronic delay of salary by the Trans Nzoia County government.”
The procession shall be between 9.00 am and 2.30 pm.
According to the letter, the procession will start from Drs Plaza through museum round about, to Trans Nzoia County Assembly and then the governor’s office at the county headquarters through the Ambwere Plaza’s route then back to freedom corner.
“The purpose of this letter therefore is to request your office in accordance with Article 137 of the Kenyan Constitution to provide us with permit and security as we participate in our constitutional right to demonstrate, to picket and to present petition to public authorities,” read the letter.
Among the unions expected to participate in the protest include the Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU), Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNM), Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO) and Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO).
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentist Union (KMPDU) officials did not sign the letter.
KMPDU recently reached an agreement with the county over issues related to their members
