The County Government of Uasin Gishu has established a fully equipped Newborn Unit (NBU) at Turbo Sub-County Hospital.
This marks a significant step in improving maternal and child healthcare in the area.
The specialized facility is designed to enhance survival rates and provide critical care for newborns who require close medical attention immediately after birth.
The unit is equipped with four incubators, two baby cots fitted with phototherapy capability for the treatment of neonatal jaundice, two additional baby cots, and four breast pumps to support mothers in providing adequate nutrition for their infants.
County health officials say the new equipment will significantly boost the hospital’s capacity to manage premature births, low birth weight babies, and other neonatal complications within the sub-county.
The unit has already admitted its first newborn patient, a milestone that brings life-saving neonatal services closer to families in Turbo and surrounding communities.
Residents have been encouraged to take advantage of the improved maternal and newborn services now available at Turbo Sub-County Hospital, including antenatal care and safe delivery services.
The investment,.the county said underscores Governor Jonathan Bii’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving neonatal outcomes.
It is also aimed at ensuring every newborn gets a healthier start to life.
