The County Government of Uasin Gishu has adopted new road implementation strategies.
County Executive for Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat says the new strategy seeks to ensure all designs for road improvement projects factor in all road infrastructure requirements to have climate-smart infrastructure.
This is unlike before.
“We will be implementing continuous drainage systems for proper management of stormwater to river Sosiani and other streams. We are keen on issues such as carriageways and pedestrian walkways in Eldoret,” Eng Lagat said.
“One of the projects to be improved soon is Bandaptai Road,” he added.
Meanwhile, the County has completed the installation of culverts in different villages of the Ainabkoi/Olare ward for proper management of stormwater and floods that destroy agricultural land during heavy rainfall.
The Culverts were installed along Chepng’oror (Kaprotwo) Road, Samitoi Road, Chebinyiny Road, Kewet Road, and Tot Farm Road, among other places.
Kenneth Cheruiyot, a resident from Tot farm village said the ward is well known for producing a variety of crops such as beans, Irish potatoes, cabbages, wheat and piece and also dairy farming.
It has however faced challenges of crops being destroyed by floods and stormwater, as well as difficulties transporting the produce to the market during heavy rains.
The challenge will however be a thing of the past with the new efforts from the Governor Jonathan Bii-led administration.
since July 2023, the county has opened up 45 kilometres of new roads, maintained 901kms of existing roads, graded 800 km, gravelled 101 km of roads and completed 135 metres of drainage works (Bridges and Culverts)
