Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot has affirmed the commitment of Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration to ensuring gender representation in the recruitment of all departments.
Speaking at the county headquarters in Eldoret during the marking of International Women’s Day, on March 8, 2023, Eng. Barorot said they have already made strides in having representation of women in top management at the county.
The Deputy County Boss said already, Governor Bii’s cabinet has three women out of the ten county executives while six women were appointed to chief officer positions out of the 13.
“All those women are able and that is why we have confidence that we will deliver in our mandate,” Eng. Barorot said.
He further noted that out of the over 4,000 county employees, 59 per cent are women.
“We know women are capable as men in terms of delivery,” said the DG who also said under Governor Bii’s NGUZO KUMI development blueprint, they will be initiating a number of programs to address gender parity issues within the society.
With this year’s theme being ‘Digital Innovating and Technology for Gender Equality’ the Deputy Governor challenged women to embrace technology to better their lives.
Similar sentiments were shared by County Executive for Gender, Social Welfare and Culture, Dr Janet Kosgey, who said it is only through technology that women can fully participate in contributing to the county’s economic growth.
She further pledged that her department will come up with programs and projects that will help ease the challenges that women have been facing, among them improving access to health care and water.
