The Uasin Gishu County Assembly has endorsed the ongoing push for Eldoret town to be elevated into a city.
Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei now says they are ready to facilitate and ensure the process succeeds.
The County Assembly is one of the key institutions that must give a green light before the town gets the much sought-after city status.
Speaking at the Eldoret Social Hall during an all-political-leaders public forum on the conferment of the Municipal of Eldoret to city status, Muigei said the elevation comes with many benefits.
“The City status comes in with very many economic and social gains to us as the County Government of Uasin Gishu,” Muigei said.

The forum was held on Thursday, November 10, 2022.
“The Uasin Gishu County Assembly promises to provide the best legislation, oversight and representation to facilitate and enable the Conferment and a progressive City thereafter,” he added.
According to the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker, among the areas of interest for them are matters bills.
He further said the third County Assembly will focus on progressive and developmental bills to aid in the smooth running of the city “as we move to improve and scale up our lives”.
The Thursday session was the last one for the ad hoc committee that has been collecting views from members of the public and other stakeholders for the last two weeks.
More job opportunities
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim also attended the session.
He affirmed his support for the city status bid.
“With Eldoret being elevated to a city there shall be more job opportunities through industrialization, ready market and best prices for our agricultural produce, increased investment opportunities among other blessings for our fifth city to be,” said the county boss.

Established by former Governor Jackson Mandago, the committee chaired by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Uasin Gishu branch chairman Willy Kenei is expected to retreat and draft a report based on the views received.
The report will then be submitted to the county executive which if approved, will be forwarded to the county assembly.
Once approved by the MCAs, the report will then be forwarded to the Senate for debate and consideration.
If it gets the nod from Senators, the President will confer the city charter to Eldoret, making it the fifth city in Kenya after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru.
