Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly are this Tuesday expected to resume their sittings.
This is after the County Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei recalled the MCAs, barely a week after their adjourned their sittings sine dine.
In a gazette notice dated June 23, 2023, Muigei notified the MCAs and members of the public that the County Assembly will resume at 9.30 am.
The notice was published in the Kenya Gazette on June 26, 2023.
“Pursuant to standing order no. 1 of the County Assembly Standing Orders, it is notified for the information of all honourable members and members of the public that the Assembly shall resume its sittings on Tuesday, the 27th June 2023 at 9.30 am at the County Assembly chambers in Uasin Gishu County,” read part of the gazette notice.

Last week, the Uasin Gishu MCAs unanimously voted to support a motion to adjourn their sittings indefinitely.
Better remuneration
The motion was moved by the leader of the majority Julius Sang – in solidary with a resolution reached during a meeting with County Assembly speakers, leaders of the majority as well as the minority from across the country.
The resolution was part of the MCAs’ effort to protest against what they claim is poor remuneration.
They are demanding better salaries as well as benefits from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
However, the Uasin Gishu MCAs’ decision to adjourn indefinitely affected a key county process – budget making.
The motion was passed on a day the Fiance and Economic County Executive was expected to deliver a budget statement.
Later, Governor Jonathan Bii said he supported the MCAs’ push for better remuneration but said they should have allowed the budget to be presented.

He had also appealed to the MCAs to consider reconvening for the sake of the budget.
“We need money for the preparation of the upcoming Devolution Conference and I ask that you kindly see how this budget can be passed even as you push for the salary with SRC,” Bii pleaded with the MCAs.
Eldoret will be hosting the Devolution Conference in August.
With the resumption of the sittings, the budget statement is now expected to be delivered later today.
