Gideons Starlets Unbeaten Run Ended by Bungoma Queens

Gideon Starlets’ lead at the top of the Women Division One Zone B league table was reduced to only one point following their weekend’s first loss away at Sang’alo Institute.

Starlets started the weekend unbeaten and four points ahead but a 3-1 loss to Bungoma Queens and a 2-1 win for Kisped Queens means they remain on top with 43 points, but having played a game more than the Kisumu-based team.

Kisped now has 42 points from 19 games after their win away against Kitale-based Royal Starlets.

Bungoma Queens also moved a place up to third with 39 points while Soccer Assassins who were not in action this weekend dropped to fourth with 37 points having played 18 games.

In the other weekend matches – two Uasin Gishu-based sides Eldoret Falcons and Gene Queens registered important wins.

Falcons playing at their Marura Primary School Grounds secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against visiting Kolwa Falcons while Gene Queens hit five goals past hosts Kimathi Lioness in Nakuru.

The wins put the two Eldoret sides in a pole position to remain in the league with both at 27 points after 18 games – 9 points ahead of 9th-placed Solasa Stima Queens who are also based in Eldoret.

Midweek fixtures

Battle for the FKF Women Division One Zone B league glory and promotion continues this Wednesday with five games scheduled.

Gene Queens will be at home, hosting Royal Starlets at the Uasin Gishu Primary School while Kimathi Lioness will be hosting Bungoma Queens at their Kimathi Grounds.

Second-placed Kisped Queens will hope to keep the pressure on league leaders Gideon Starlets as they host Vihiga Leeds at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Meanwhile, Gideons Starlets will be at their Opanga Primary School Grounds in Homa Bay hosting Eldoret Falcons.

Another mid-week clash will see Kolwa Falcons face Gusii Starlets at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

At least four teams are currently in the promotion race – but only two will make it.

League winners will get direct promotion to the FKF Women Premier League while second placed team will face a team that also finished second in the Division One Zone A league for a playoff to determine who gets the promotion.

At the other end of the table, eight teams will be relegated.

Already Oserian Ladies, Nyuki Starlets FC and Bomet Starlets dropped.

Five more teams will be on the chop[ing board at the end of the league.
