All food vendors operating along Eldoret city streets, corridors and pavements have been ordered to stop with immediate effect.
The county government of Uasin Gishu issued the notice on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, due to what it said were health reasons.
“You are hereby notified to stop/cease any further preparation, display or selling of foodstuffs along the pavements, streets and corridors in Eldoret city,” read part of the notice signed by the acting deputy director of public health.
“The practice poses health risks to members of the public under Section 7 of the Food, Drugs and Chemical Substance Act,” the notice added.
With the notice, the food vendors are now expected to immediately stop any further preparation, displaying and selling of food under such insanitary conditions.
The county further warned that non-compliance with the notice will attract legal action without any further notice.
Sale of foodstuffs along Eldoret corridors, streets and pavements has been a normal practice for years.
That is, however, expected to come to an end as the county moves to rid them in a renewed bid to ensure locals only eat food prepared in a clean environment.
