Uasin Gishu ECDE Pupil Enrollment On The Rise, Bii Credits It To County Projects

Uasin Gishu County Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, has expressed his satisfaction with the steady growth in enrollment at Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres, attributing the success to his administration’s strategic investments in the sector.

Since taking office, Governor Bii has prioritized the expansion and improvement of ECDE services, directing significant resources and launching various initiatives aimed at enhancing early childhood education.

Speaking during his development tour of Ziwa and Segero/Barsombe Wards on Friday, the Governor noted that the county’s ECDE centres have seen a marked increase in pupil enrollment over the past two years.

The rising enrollment in our ECDE centres is a clear indication that the improvements in learning environments, strengthened teaching staff, and the availability of quality resources are yielding positive results,” said Governor Bii.

How Uasin Gishu is investing in ECDE

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuing investments in ECDE, emphasizing the importance of education as a the greatest equalizer.

We are dedicated to building a strong educational foundation for our children across the 673 ECDE centres in our County,” the Governor added.

During his visit, Governor Bii commissioned the new Sugutek ECDE classroom in Segero/Barsombe Ward and assessed the progress of ongoing construction at the Chebinyiny and Lemoru ECDE centres in Ziwa Ward.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing early childhood education across the county,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted the county’s successful initiatives, including the school milk program, which has improved learner retention and engagement.

The school milk program, the first of its kind among the 47 counties, provides 200ml packets of milk twice a week to all pupils in county-run ECDE centres.

This program, alongside the provision of learning materials, has made a significant impact in keeping our young learners in school,” Governor Bii stated.
