Uasin Gishu Fire and Rescue Section Elevated To Full Directorate, Cosmas Kerich Appointed Director

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has elevated the Fire and Rescue Section—previously under the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works—to a full directorate.

The moves is aimed at allowing for more dedicated focus on the section’s operations.

As part of the new status, Governor Jonathan Bii has since appointed Cosmas Kerich to be the new Director of the Fire and Rescue Directorate.

According to the Chief Officer, the creation of the new directorate will not only provide fresh leadership and improved resource mobilization for the unit but will also significantly enhance overall service delivery.

This aligns with Governor Bii’s Nguzo Kumi agenda, specifically Pillar Six, which focuses on infrastructure development,” the CO said.

Upcoming projects for Uasin Gishu Fire and Rescue Directorate

During an inspection of ongoing renovation works at the fire station, Tanui revealed that the Bii administration has allocated funds in the 2025/26 budget for to facilitate several key projects in the new directorate.

They include the purchase of a new fire engine, the upgrading of the Eldoret City Fire Station, the construction of new fire stations in Moisbridge and Ziwa, and the equipping of the Burnt Forest Fire Station.

Also present at the ceremony were Director of Transport and Mechanical Services, Lazarus Sile—who had been serving as Acting Director of the Fire and Rescue Section—Chief Fire Officer David Sitati, and the entire fire brigade team.
