Uasin Gishu: Jonathan Bii Sends 9 Senior County Officials on Compulsory Leave

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has sent nine senior officials in his administration on a one-month compulsory leave.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the governor said the move followed a review of the half-year performance of the staff and “the need to  undertake thorough staff appraisal to enhance quality service delivery.”

Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development County Executive Committee Member Dr Janet Kosgey is among those who have been sent on leave.

Seven chief Officers have also faced the same fate. They include Roads’ Abraham Kiptalam, Nickson Cheplong (Agriculture), Victorine Kapkiai (Trade), Marion Birgen (Education), and Nahum Jelagat (Public Service Management).

Other COs also sent on compulsory leave are Environment’s Mary Kerich and Felix Kimaru of ICT.

The governor has also sent on leave his Chief of Staff Nicholas Chepkwony with Dr Pius Kiplimo Chumbaa taking over the role.

In addition, Bii announced a reorganization of his Cabinet, with several county executives moved to new dockets.

Among those affected by the latest changes is Anthony Sitienei who will now be the new Water, Sanitation, Energy and Environment CECM. Sitienei has been serving in the Education docket that will now be headed by Elijah Kipkeny Kosgey.

Edward Kiprono Sawe has been named the new Lands CECM, taking over from Dr Kosgey who has been sent on a one-month compulsory leave.
