Uasin Gishu Leaders Push for Urban Road Network Expansion

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii, on Thursday, held a consultative stakeholder engagement with different national government road agencies and County leaders to identify missing link roads to be opened up in Eldoret town. This is in part of efforts to enhance the movement of goods and services within and outside the county.

Speaking at the event, the governor said, “I urge you as the national government agencies mandated to work on the projects to embrace this collaboration with the county leadership. There is an urgent need to have the input of members of the public and incorporate corporate social responsibility programs for the benefit of the residents.”

The meeting which was held at Boma Hotel in Eldoret sought to bring a collaboration between the national government agencies and the county leaders on the design of the Eldoret Eastern bypass project scheduled to be completed by March this year.

KENHA Regional Director Eng. Philemon Kipkoech briefed the leaders on the designs of the Eldoret Eastern Bypass, Southern Bypass, and Sirgoit -Mlango Bypass which are part of modern roads that will be constructed to help reduce traffic congestion within the Eldoret town CBD.

Senator Jackson Mandago called for regular meetings and reports from the ground on the progress of the implementation of the road projects.

Corporate social responsibility

On their part, Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga and his Turbo counterpart Janet Sitienei concurred with the sentiments of the governor on the need to identify the missing links.

They also highlighted that the projects should capture corporate social responsibility programs which include hospitals, schools, markets, and other community projects.

Roads CECM Eng Joseph Lagat has already directed engineers, inspectors, and surveyors from the department to move with speed to the sub-county level for the design and mapping of the targeted missing links to implement the road projects within the specified timelines.

The meeting was attended by CECM Lands Dr Janeth Kosgey, CECM Education Antony Sitienei, the Regional Director of Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) Eng. Philemon Kipkoech, Representatives from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Eng Julius Cheserek and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Eng Nicholas Parapara, Uasin Gishu Roads Chief Officer Eng Abraham Kiptalam, including all the roads section engineers.
