Saboti MP Caleb Amisi Lectures President Ruto

Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has urged President William Ruto to respect the independence of the Judiciary and the doctrine of separation of powers.

Speaking at Rafiki Primary School during the inauguration of two classrooms financed through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Amisi said Ruto should not interfere with the affairs of the Judiciary.

All the three arms of government are independent but work interdependently and therefore the President should not interfere with one arm of government because that poses a serious threat to democracy,” he said.

The second-term lawmaker and an ardent supporter of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga said Ruto’s sustained attacks on the Judiciary and judicial officers should be opposed and condemned.

If these unwarranted attacks on the judiciary are allowed to continue, they will then find their way into the legislature which is actually against the principle of separation of powers and we urge Kenyans to support us by opposing it in the strongest terms possible,” he stated.

Ruto’s style of leadership style

Additionally, Amisi who is also the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Deputy Organizing Secretary poked holes in Ruto’s style of leadership and asked him to deliver what he promised Kenyans during the 2022 campaigns.

We do not oppose Ruto and his administration because we like it but we do so because he has failed as a leader. For your information had he delivered his campaign manifesto we would have already joined his administration,” he added.

Furthermore, the MP called on the government to lower the rising cost of living as a matter of urgency arguing that several Kenyans are now struggling to feed their children.

We opposed and we shall continue to oppose the punitive Finance Act 2023 because it has raised the cost of living, Kenyans are crying all over and the government is not listening to them,” Amisi noted.

The MP’s remarks come barely a day after President Ruto visited Trans Nzoia where he took a swipe at Odinga’s opposition to call for dialogue between the Judiciary and the executive.
