For the last few days, there have been speculations amongst a section of Uasin Gishu netizens that there was something cooking – in terms of the county’s political leadership.
The speculations were fueled by reports that Uasin Gishu County Woman Member of Parliament Gladys Boss Shollei had held a meeting with all Uasin Gishu MCAs – in Nairobi.
With the meeting coming to light, most social media pundits have come to the conclusion the powerful legislator, who doubles up as the National Assembly Deputy Speaker, was up to something.
Some have even suggested that she was plotting an impeachment motion against Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim.

It is a matter that subtly featured during the county thanksgiving and dedication prayers at the Eldoret Sports Club on December 8, 2022.
At the event, only three MCAs out of the 44 were present – further heightening speculations.
But when the present MCAs were given an opportunity to address those that had attended the prayer service, they sought to explain why most of their colleagues were not present.
Official duties
Bishop Patrick Kimeli, the Moi’s Bridge MCA noted that other Uasin Gishu MCAs could not attend the event as they were engaged in other official duties – in Nairobi.
“We had planned to present a song as MCAs when the event was originally scheduled for December 2, 2022, but after it was pushed to today, it found us in Nairobi on other duties,” said Bishop Kimeli.

“With others engaged, it was agreed that three of us come to represent them here,” he added.
Karuna/Meibeki MCA James Serem shared similar sentiments, dispelling fears that the MCAs were up to something.
He explained that they have been in Nairobi for official duties and that the County Woman MP only passed by at where they were meeting for greetings.
“We have been in Nairobi for official duties and at some point, our Woman Rep visited us. When photos of her with us came out, people started saying we were up to something. But she is our leader, when she comes to greet us there is no problem. We can’t chase her away…” he explained.
Aside from the social media speculations, the assembly leadership, Uasin Gishu MCAs and the County Executive have so far been working closely.

The MCAs have already passed all the county executive nominees, and are set to vet Chief Officer nominees once they resume from a long recess on January 13, 2022.
