Residents of Uasin Gishu County, particularly those living in flood-prone and waterlogged areas, have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing drainage works being undertaken by the County Government through the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works.
The efforts come in response to recent heavy downpours that led to flash floods especially in areas with sloppy terrain and swampy grounds.
County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Dr. Abraham Serem, alongside Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui on Monday, July 21, 2025, led a county-wide inspection of the works.

Among the sites visited was Rehema Estate, where teams have commenced excavation of drainage ditches along Rehema Road, installation of new culverts, cleaning of blocked drains, and opening of clogged culvert lines.
Dr. Serem emphasized that the ongoing drainage upgrades align with Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi development blueprint specifically Agenda Six, which prioritizes infrastructure and road network improvements across the county.
“We are seeking a lasting solution to this persistent challenge,” said Dr. Serem.
“Let’s move with speed. We must prioritize the installation of culverts and opening of natural drainage channels to restore affected areas and prevent future flooding,” he added.

Residents of Rehema Estate, led by Joseph Komen, commended the county’s swift response and lauded the leadership for listening to their concerns and taking timely action.
