Uasin Gishu County has made notable progress in improving water access as part of the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLOCCA) Program.
The official handover of several key water supply projects, overseen by Christopher Mbevi, the Climate Change Unit incharge of Soy Sub-County, marked the start of vital infrastructure developments aimed at addressing both household and irrigation water needs.
These projects are expected to benefit hundreds of residents while enhancing the region’s climate resilience.
FLOCCA projects in Uasin Gishu
The first handover took place at the Kaptigin Water Project in the Kuinet/Kapsuswa ward. The project features the installation of a 24-cubic-meter elevated steel water tank, sump desilting, and fencing around the facility.
These improvements are set to dramatically increase water access for local households and offer sustainable irrigation solutions to nearby agricultural communities.
In Ziwa ward, the Sachangwan Water Project was also handed over. This project includes the construction of a 1.5-kilometer distribution pipeline from Sachangwan Primary School, as well as the creation of multiple communal water points.
With plans to serve over 400 households, this initiative is part of FLOCCA’s broader mission to provide sustainable water solutions to underserved communities in both Ziwa and Kuinet/Kapsuswa wards.
In Moiben Sub-County, the Koitoro Water Project was officially launched in a ceremony attended by key local figures, including Sub-County Water Engineer Noah Kebenei, Ward Administrator Alex Kangogo, Environment Officer Bill Matelong, and FLOCCA committee representatives.
The project involves the construction of a sump tank, pump house, service pump, power system, and four communal water points.
In addition, the rehabilitation of an existing ground masonry water tank and distribution lines will ensure more efficient water delivery. This project is expected to benefit over 300 households, including the nearby Koitoro Primary School.
The cite handovers marked an important milestone for FLOCCA, as the program continues to address water access challenges in Uasin Gishu County.

The projects are set to provide clean, reliable water to over 1,000 people across the three wards, benefiting both domestic and agricultural needs, and improving the overall quality of life in the region.
Community members expressed their appreciation during the ceremonies, recognizing the transformative impact of the program n Uasin Gishu.
With these projects in place, the county is on track to achieve The Governor’s manifesto under Nguzo number 7 which sets to enhance agricultural productivity, better living standards, and increased climate resilience.
