The County Government of Uasin Gishu is looking to adopt technological methods to monitor trends and production to inform decision-making and policy crafting.
Speaking as he hosted officers from the Directorate of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing (DRSRS), Eng. John Barorot said the County Government is keen on data for efficiency and productivity.
“Trends are very important and we are very keen on adopting ways to bring efficiency in governance,” said Eng Barorot.
DRSRS is a directorate in the Office of the President, whose mandate is, among others, to use satellite technology for mapping, monitoring forest cover, land degradation and urban planning.
“We are very keen on monitoring trends and acquiring data that will assist us in policy and ultimately decision making,” noted the deputy county boss.
The DG further said the County Government is interested in getting services in order to monitor and manage data on farm acreage to aid in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer.
“If we can establish the number of farmers cultivating maize and wheat for example and the acreage, we will be able to order and distribute manure where brokers and extortionists will be controlled in the production chain,” Eng Barorot, said.
Cpt John Wathuo, who led the visiting delegation, said the services of the Directorate are very important, especially at a time when gradual deforestation is causing desertification.
