A family in Uasin Gishu County has been plunged into mourning following the brutal murder of one of their members.
Kevin Kimwetich, a 28-year-old, was on Thursday morning found dead near the gate to his rented house in Califonia estate, Kimumu ward on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Tenants who were living with the deceased say the body was discovered in the morning with one of the children as they were headed to school.
“My child as he was heading to school stumbled on the body when he opened the door and came back running. That is when we found the body,” said Gladys Chumba who lived with the deceased in the same plot.
The body was found with deep knife wounds, indicating that he might have been stabbed while on his way home at night.
“It looks like he was stabbed elsewhere but died at the gate, I heard someone wail at night but it was only once and I did not tell where it was from,” Chumba noted.
Kimwetich recently finished his degree and he had told some of his neighbours that he was preparing to fly out to Finland for further studies.
Fundraiser
Eunice Chepkorir, a family member of the deceased said he finished his degree at Maasai Mara University in 2021.
She confirmed that he was on his way to Finland.
“A fundraiser to contribute money for him to travel to Finland was to be held next week. And the boy did not have parents. It is very sad that he has been killed,” said Chepkorir.
The police have since moved the body of the deceased to the Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital (MTRH) mortuary even as they continue with investigations.
Uasin Gishu Deputy County Police Commander Zacchaeus Ng’eno says the deceased had a stab wound on his neck.

“Preliminary investigations show that he was stabbed about 50 metres from his home and succumbed just before he arrived at his house,” Ng’eno said.
“We are still investigating to find out the motive and any leads that might help us arrest the culprits,” he added.
So far, no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
This is even as the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale said they have intensified police patrols across the country in a bid to address any insecurity challenges.
He also said they will work with the County Government of Uasin Gishu so that they can improve lighting systems in areas that have reported a rise in insecurity cases within Eldoret town.
