Vihiga’s Soccer Assassin’s Promoted to Kenya Women Premier League

Madira High School’s football team Soccer Assassin’s will next season be playing at the Kenya Women Premier League.

This is after the Vihiga-based team were declared champions of the FKF Women Division One Zone B League.

Final games for the highly competitive leaague were played on Saturday – with all the top four teams having a chance to get direct promotion.

Soccer Assassin’s humiliated Nakuru’s Kimathi Lioness 23-0 to secure the top spot ahead of Bungoma Queens who had played their last game last weekend.

Before the weekend games, Bungoma Queen’s were top of the league with 28 points.

They hopped none of the teams behind would win a game but it wasn’t to be and finished second on the log.

This is after another promotion chasing side Gideon’s Starlets fell to Kisped Queens 1-0 in their last game.

Tight promotion race

Had the Starlets won the game, they could have been promoted to the top league but instead finished fourth with 46 points.

Bungoma Queens will now face Uweza Women FC in the playoffs that will determine who gets the promotion.

Uweza finished second in the FKF Women Division One Zone B League after losing 3-1 to Kibera Soccer Women who were crowned champions and secured direct promotion.

It’s double joy for the Vihiga-based team having also secured a slot to participate in the upcoming Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association games slated for next weekend in Kakamega.

The team will be in the nationals for the first time despite finishing second in the Western regional games.

Meanwhile, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is next season set to introduce a new tier of women football.

Under the proposed arrangement, the Women National Super League will be the second tier of women league.

However, a detailed communication on the league will be provided later.

Reports indicate that the new league will have relegated teams from the Women Premier League and top 5 teams from each Division One A and B.
