Governor Simon Kachapin has launched Ksh 350 million West Pokot County Government bursary programme in Kodich Ward.
Kachapin further said his administration will continue investing in education to give children from vulnerable families a better future.
Addressing residents during the event on Friday, May 8, 2026, the Governor said many bright students across the county still struggle to stay in school because of financial difficulties, and the bursary programme was established to ensure no learner drops out due to lack of fees.

He noted that the county has continued increasing support towards education over the years in a bid to reach more students.
In the 2022/2023 financial year, the county disbursed Ksh 435.5 million in bursaries, followed by Ksh 600 million in 2023/2024 and Ksh 500 million in the 2024/2025 financial year.
This year, the county has set aside Ksh 350 million for the programme benefiting more than 40,000 students across secondary schools, universities, colleges, TVETs and VTCs among others.

Governor Kachapin however challenged beneficiaries to work hard in school and make good use of the opportunity, saying education remains one of the surest ways of fighting poverty and opening doors for future generations.
The Governor later commissioned several development projects in Kodich Ward, saying the county government remains committed to taking services closer to the people through investments in roads, water, health and education infrastructure.
He said development should be felt in every part of West Pokot and assured residents that the county government will continue implementing projects that directly improve the lives of wananchi.
