Kenya Power has announced planned disruption of its tokens purchase services.
The company, in a notice said the service that allows prepaid customers to purchase tokens using the mobile phones or bank applications will not be available for 24 hours from Sunday at 10.00 pm.
According the company, the token service will be unavailable due to a planned system maintenance.
“We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid vending system will be unavma6from 10.00 pm Sunday, 2nd June to 10.00 pm Monday 3rd June to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved service delivery,” the company said.

During the said period, Kenya Power customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power ofifves, M-Pesa Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money and banking channels.
The company has since advised it’s customers to purchase enough tokens.
Anyone whose tokens are used up during the maintenance period will be forced to remain without power until when the service is back to operations.
“We therefore wish to advise our pre-paid customers to buy enough tokens before then to avoid any inconveniences,” the company said.

It also appreciated its customers for their understanding and cooperation.
A majority of Kenyans are on prepaid services.
Latest data show that Kenya Power currently has an estimated 2.1 million customers on postpaid billing while 6.8 million customers are on the prepaid system.
The company plans to phase out post-paid services by 2027.
