Wisely Rotich Cleared to Vie for Governor in Elgeyo Marakwet

Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wisley Rotich has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to fly the UDA gubernatorial ticket ahead of August 9 General Election.

Rotich in his acceptance speech thanked the people of Elgeyo Marakwet for nominating him during the recent UDA primaries and promised not to let them down.

Prof. Grace Cheserek was also cleared by IEBC to be the Deputy Governor’s running mate.

IEBC county Retuning Officer Charles Mutai declared that the two met all requirements one needed to have to run for a gubernatorial seat.

Rotich, who also used the opportunity to share his agenda once elected in August, said he would focus on economic empowerment to address the current run away poverty in the country.

My administration will address the economy at a family level in line with UDA’s economic model which centres at empowering the people in the tail end of economy, we will be moving to address it at the household level,” said Mr Rotich.

He added that while in office, Iten County Referral Hospital would receive additional consultants and also act as a training centre for nurses.

I will ensure that this hospital is made autonomous and to be run by a Chief Executive Officer,” he added.

Still on Health, the UDA gubernatorial candidate pledged a model health center in each Ward, which will be equipped to ease pressure and reduce travelling distance by patients who according to him, would be attended at the health centres.

Those seeking education sponsorship will also benefit through his planned Pepea program, which he said, he was already reaching out to potential sponsors for both local and international education opportunities.

He also used the opportunity to drum up support for William Ruto’s presidential bid.

Flanked by members of his immediate family and hundreds of supporters, Rotich warned his competitors of a grueling contest and urged them to hit the ground instead of hiding in hotels.

He faces National Vision Party’s Anthony Chelimo and Moses Changwony an independent candidate.

Prof. Cheserek thanked the deputy county boss for believing in her and pledged to support him succeed in discharging his duties.
