Kenya Power Company has announced planned system maintenance that will affect the purchase of tokens for its prepaid electricity customers.
According to a customer alert shared on its social media pages, the company indicated that the maintenance will last over 10 hours – a period in which customers will not be able to purchase the tokens.
The company’s myPower App as well as USD code *977# will also be unavailable during the period.
Kenya Power says the system maintenance starts this Friday at midnight. It is expected to be complete by Saturday mid-morning.

“Dear esteemed customer. We wish to inform you that we will carry out system maintenance from Friday 31.03.2023 at midnight to Saturday 1.04.2023 at 11.00 am,” read part of the customer alert.
“As a result, purchase of prepaid tokens and checking of token details via *977# and myPower App will be unavailable,” added the alert.
With the planned disruption, Kenya Power has since apologized to its customers for the anticipated inconveniences that it will cause to the customers.

In recent years, Kenya Power has been working on digitizing its network to allow customers to purchase electricity tokens for themselves.
As of October 2022, the company had 2.1 million customers on postpaid billing, while 6.8 million customers were on prepaid billing (tokens).
