9 Uasin Gishu MCAs That Were Re-Elected

Kenyans go to the polls after every five years to elect new leaders during a general election.

And during the general election, there are always those that get re-elected while others are usually rejected by voters.

In the just concluded election held on August 9, 2022, there were several Uasin Gishu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) that were lucky to be voted back.

Out of 30 MCAs, only 9 made it back.

The nine include Isaac Kirwa Kemboi of Kapsoya ward, Francis Muya (Langas), Jonathan Ng’etich (Kaptagat), David Keitany (Sergoit) and Amos Kiptanui of Racecourse ward who got their third straight terms each.

Sarah Malel, one of the two women MCAs in the last County Assembly was re-elected back to the County Assembly for the second term by her Kimumu voters same as Julius Kiptoo Songok of Tulwet/Chuiyat Ward and Julius Kibet Sang of Megun ward.

Another MCA that got his second term – back-to-back is David Kiptoo Tarus of Kapkures.

All the MCAs voted back for a third term were UDA candidates save for the Francis Muya of Langas that was re-elected on a Jubilee party ticket.

MCAs making a comeback

While the 9 MCAs did just enough to convince the voters that they deserve another term in office, we also have two former MCAs that are making a comeback.

The two served in the first County Assembly – between 2013 and 2017 before voters showed them the door in the 2017 general election.

However, as fate will have it, those that were voted in their place never did enough to warrant re-election.

The two are Rebecca Chepchirchir Sugut of Kuinet/Kapsuswa ward in Soy Constituency and Nicholas Kipruto Bitok of Tapsagoi Ward in Turbo.

Both are back courtesy of the UDA party.

All the Uasin Gishu MCAs will be holding their inaugural session on September 6, 2022, during which they will be sworn in and later vote for a new County Assembly Speaker.
