Kenyan athlete Agnes Tirop is dead.
Tirop, a specialist in 5,000 m is said to have been found dead in her rural house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to Citizen Digital, the athlete who represented Kenya in the recently concluded Olympic Games in Tokyo Japan was found dead with stab wounds in her stomach on October 13, 2021.
It is claimed Tirop was killed by her estranged husband.
The 25-year-old athlete mainly competed in the 5000 meters and cross country running.
At the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, she became the second-youngest ever gold medalist in the women’s race after Zola Budd.
She was a medalist at the junior level at the World Cross Country and World Junior Championships in Athletics.
Agnes Tirop was also the junior champion at the African Cross Country Championships in 2014 and held a 5000 m best of 14:50.36 minutes.
She won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters event at the 2017 World Championships.
