The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has partnered with Kenya Power in a move that will see all streets lights within Item Township repaired.
In addition, other major towns in the county will also benefit from the new partnership.
Kenya Power has since allocated Ksh4 million to facilitate the new plan to repair the streetlights.

To start off the partnership, county and Kenya Power officials on Tuesday witnessed the start of repair works in Iten.
County Executive Committee Member incharge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development, Thomas Maiyo thanked the power utility company for the support.
He said repair of the street lights will enhance security in Iten Township and other urban areas across the county.

“Our residents in Iten and other townships can now be assured of continuous security,” CECM Maiyo said.
The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet pays monthly bills for all the LED street lights in the County, which replaced the former solar powered lights.
On the first day of the repair works, 80 lanterns as well as 60 automation switches were worked on and others replaced.

Also accompanying the Kenya Power team was Chief Officer in the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Emmanuel Birir.
