It was all joy for a single mother of three after her daughter finally joined form one after a long wait.
The daughter – Sophie Jepchumba had scored 330 marks in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and was due to join form one in May 2022.
However, she had been unable to join, as her mother was not able to raise the school fees due to the challenges she was facing financially.
The girl can now have a smile on her face after Jonathan Bii Chelilim, alias Koti Moja, the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket came to her rescue.
Koti Moja has now paid all the school fees and Jepchumba has joined Kerotet Girls High School.
“I have taken a personal initiative of undertaking the responsibility of paying school fees for Sophie Jepchumba who has today joined Kerotet High school,” the gubernatorial candidate posted on his official Facebook page.
“Sophie scored 330 marks in her KCPE and she comes from a humble background, her single mother of three could not raise the requisite amount required due to the common economic challenge faced,” he added, even as he wished her all the best in her knowledge-seeking endeavor.
But even as Sophie Jepchumba from a humble background can now continue pursuing her dreams, Koti Moja is pledging to allocate more funds to the bursary kitty – so that more locals with a similar challenge can benefit.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has been allocating about Ksh90 million, Ksh3 million for each of the 30 wards for the bursary kitty.
“I intend to broaden the County’s bursary kitty under my objective plan of enabling the many needy cases of such ilk within our County in my bid to turning dreams into practical future realities,” Koti Moja said.
