Mzee Wilson Maru Chelilim, father to Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Jonathan Bii Chelilim is set to be laid to rest on Friday, January 21, 2022.
The body of Mzee Maru has been lying at an Eldoret hospital since January 12, 2022, when he died.
While announcing his father’s death, Jonathan Bii said he had been battling illness for a long time.
“We regret to announce the unfortunate demise of Mzee Chelilim who rested this morning after a long sickness bravely borne,” noted the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant.
Since Mzee Maru’s death, Jonathan Bii has been hosting friends at his parents’ home in Kapsang – as they trickle in to condole and share comfort with the bereaved family.
The family also organized a fundraiser to raise funds to facilitate payment of hospital bills and cater for other burial expenses.

The main fundraiser was held on January 19, 2022, and several political leaders in Uasin Gishu were in attendance.
“We’re overwhelmed by today’s show of great compassion from those who joined us at our Kapsang home for the prayer and fundraiser towards Mzee’s send-off,” Jonathan Bii Chelilim said after the fundraiser.
Among those who attended include Kesses MP Dr. Swarup Mishra, Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of majority Josphat Lowoi, Cheptiret Kipchamo Ward MCA Gilbert Tenai, and representatives of Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Kapseret MP, UDA Uasin Gishu Coordinator Paul Kiprop and Senate seat aspirant Kipchumba Karori.
Ahead of the final sendoff of Mzee Wilson Kimaru, his body is scheduled to be moved to his home this Thursday.
“The Cortège of our late Mzee Maru Chelilim is set to leave the Eldoret Hospital morgue as we’re currently converged for the same. We’ll be headed to our Kapsang home for a Requiem Mass ahead of his final send-off slated for tomorrow. Thank you all for your prayers and support,” Jonathan Bii gave an update via his official Facebook page.
Mzee Maru Chelilim died aged 86. He was born in 1936.
