Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA Gilbert Kosgey has requested a statement from the chairperson of the Select Committee on Implementation regarding the implementation status of County Flagship Projects.
Kosgey who is also the Chairperson of the Public Accounts and Investments Committee wants the status for projects initiated since 2013.
While requesting the statement before the floor of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly, the MCA noted that since the inception of devolution, millions have been allocated towards the construction of county-wide flagship projects.
Some of the projects highlighted by the ward representative include the construction of Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp, Kapsiliot Hills Monument for Tourism, Kapchunga Dan in Moiben and the Construction of 64 Stadium.
Others are Chebolol Special School as well as various health facilities.
“Mr Speaker Sir, also aware that over the years, there have been budgetary allocations to fund County investments which are intended to generate revenue for the County – Prudence and responsible use of the public fund is a principal of good governance and financial management as enshrined in article 201 (d) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” noted the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Chairperson of the Public Accounts and Investments Committee.
Value for money
In his statement, Kosgey, serving his first term as an MCA wants details on the project’s commencement date, cost, amount invested so far, expected date of completion, completion status and a narration of the said projects.
The projects that the MCA is demanding for a status on are;
- Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp
- MoiSoy Farmers’ Cooperative Union
- Chebolol Special School
- 64 Stadium
- Chebororwa ATC
- Agriculture Machinery Services (AMS)
- Drug Store
- All County Machinery and Equipment
- Sub-County Hospitals (Moiben, Burnt Forest, Ziwa, Kesses and Turbo)
- Kapchunga Dam
“It is good that we get a statement on these projects because it has taken time and we should know the financial implications so that we can know if we’re getting value for money that we have invested,” Kosgey said.
The listed projects were initiated during the tenure of former Governor Jackson Mandago who is now the Uasin Gishu Senator.
According to the Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA, the status of other projects should also be issued, but with priority being for the listed ones.
Deputy Speaker Sarah Malel who chaired the session under which the statement was issued committed the matter to the Select Committee on Implementation.
